Dollars For Days

Recently, one of my local grocery stores decided after 80 years in business to change course. They announced that they would now be open on Sundays and expand their evening hours on the weekdays.

They traded dollars for days!

You see, after being established in the community, the people knew what time the store was open and did all their shopping then.

But now, the store is open an extra day and so the people who would have normally shopped for groceries on Friday or Saturday are now going on Sunday.

The store stated that demand for Sunday was high – what they didn’t realize is that the people who had complained and demanded Sunday service were often the ones shopping during the week.

The traded dollars for days!

Yep, the store after a month has more expenses due to being open longer hours and more days and has yet to make the added dollars.

Plus, the employees are disgruntled that they now have to work Sundays when they never had to before.

Trading dollars for days never works.

In reality its counterproductive! You are adding more work load to yourself and your employees and not seeing a return on investment.

You created a business to fund your livelihood… so why sacrifice your livelihood to fund the business.

Trading dollars for days makes you a stressed out workaholic with very little to show.
